SPONSORED BY
On the weekend of June 11-12, the Spine Society of Australia will hold the first of what is hoped will become a series of educational workshops for trainees in spinal surgery. To be held at Rydges South Bank in Brisbane, the first workshop will focus on clinical spinal biomechanics.
NuVasive will sponsor the workshop, convened by Drs Peter McCombe and Rob Kuru and featuring world authority in spinal biomechanics, Professor Avinash Patwardhan from Chicago, USA. The faculty will also include Australian experts in spinal biomechanics.
The program will explore the biomechanics of the spinal column from a surgical perspective. In addition to explaining the fundamentals of structure, loading and kinematics of the spine, clinical case studies will be used to introduce principles of construct mechanics, implant properties, dynamic stabilisation and balance. The types, role and limitations of in vitro biomechanical testing will be introduced.
Endorsed by the Neurosurgical Society of Australia and the Australian Orthopaedic Association
