Practical Considerations on Functional Management in Adult Spasticity

Patient-centred goal setting for symptomatic treatment of upper limb focal spasticity in adults is a key process in rehabilitation medicine practice. It supports a structured approach to multidisciplinary intervention in order to restore function or limit disability, and provides outcome measures for evaluating success.1,2

Join colleagues for this workshop-style session. Groups will participate in interactive case study-based activities that address patient-centred active and passive goals, practical considerations and decision making, and multidisciplinary team engagement for best-practice clinical management of adult upper limb spasticity.

Efficacious BCI Neurorehabilitation Therapy for Stroke and Multiple Sclerosis of Any Stages

The Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research area is a thriving and rapidly expanding field. BCIs have been developed during the last years for people with severe disabilities to improve their quality of life. However, BCI applications have recently been extended to different research areas, such as rapid functional mapping on the cortical level, virtual reality and rehabilitation & therapy after stroke & multiple sclerosis. The workshop will discuss prerequisites to successfully perform both invasive and non-invasive BCI experiments, and discuss progress in relevant medical domains. Live demonstrations of BCI control will help attendees understand the technology. Brain-computer interfaces are used as a treatment for the motor rehabilitation in stroke survivors and multiple sclerosis patients. The motor impairment that affects walking is one of the most frequent limitations, which causes a high functional deficit in the patient's autonomy. This workshop would also discuss the effectiveness of the BCI technology combined with Functional Electrical Stimulation for the motor rehabilitation of both the upper and lower extremity for stroke and multiple sclerosis patients.

Christy Li has been with g.tec since 2021 and has received complete g.tec in-house training on brain-computer-interface (BCI) systems, neurorehabilitation system, ECoG brain mapping system. Christy currently focuses on collaborating with researchers, therapists, neurologists and distributors and franchisees in Asia Pacific countries to deploy BCI and recoveriX neurorehabilitation applications.

Christy graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Science degree. She has more than ten years business development, medical device and system integration experience from local distribution to regional distribution scope.
