This workshop is aimed at Rehabilitation Medicine Trainees, Fellows and Senior Rehabilitation Physicians who would like a refresher on Botulinum Toxin injecting.
Participants will receive highly experienced instruction and will be granted recognition by the RMSANZ of their competence based on objective evaluation of their skills demonstrated at the Workshop.

Instructors include members of the Botulinum Toxin Expert Working Party, Professor John Olver, A/Prof Barry Rawicki and A/Prof Ian Baguley and Dr Kathleen Ooi.

This will be a hands on workshop with patients. Minimum numbers apply.

Rehabilitation staff need to improve knowledge in spasticity care. Spasticity management is a significant problem for many patients following a neurological insult. This workshop will provide clinicians a brief clinical overview of spasticity and functional implications for patients. It will provide key issues for clinical care from an interdisciplinary perspective. Allied health members will share goal setting challenges for this population. 

A practical workshop featuring various spasticity patterns will be presented followed by injection of Botulinum toxin.

Work-based learning and assessment is a complex and necessary part of physician training. 
It is important for supervisors to understand the cycle of planning for learning and assessment, which includes fostering self-directed learning, making progress decisions on the trainee’s overall performance and evaluation of the trainee’s learning experience. 

The challenges of undertaking work-based learning and assessment amidst the complexities of the healthcare environment are many and varied. This workshop offers techniques and solutions to these challenges that will help supervisors in their vital role. 

We encourage anyone who is currently serving as a RACP/AFRM supervisor, new supervisors and those who have not previously attended a supervisor workshop to attend. Attendance can be counted towards your MyCPD program. 

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Discuss the purpose and importance of work-based learning and assessment
  • Analyse the process of planning for learning and assessment 
  • Identify the challenges and solutions associated with work-based assessment in a complex environment

Long Case Assessment Assessor’s workshop to be an accredited Long Case Assessment Assessor
What is an In-Training Long Case Assessment?

An In-Training Long Case Assessment is a work-based assessment to evaluate a Rehabilitation Medicine Advanced Trainee in real life settings and assess their level of professional judgment exercised in clinical cases. An In-Training Long Case Assessment involves a comprehensive review of clinical cases between an Advanced Trainee and their supervisor/assessor. 

An In-Training Long Case Assessment takes approximately 90 minutes. An In-Training Long Case Assessment aims to:

  • Guide your trainee’s learning through structured feedback
  • Improve your trainee’s communication, history taking, clinical decision making, clinical knowledge and patient management
  • Provide you with an opportunity to discuss your trainee’s approach to the case and identify strategies to improve practice
  • Enable you the assessor to share your professional knowledge and experience with your trainee 

A Formal Long Case Assessment (FLCA) is an In-Training Long Case Assessment completed under examination conditions during a candidate’s final year of Advanced Training.

To be an Assessor you are required to be accredited. Accreditation is gained by attending a Long Case Assessment Assessors workshop.
