About the Australian Pain Society

The Australian Pain Society (APS) was formed in 1979 as the Australian Chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain. It is a not-for-profit registered charity and is directed by an elected honorary Board of Directors. Annual subscriptions are set at the minimal level necessary to cover administrative costs of the society. The APS is truly a multidisciplinary organisation with representatives among its members from many medical specialties, as well as physiotherapy, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacology, general practitioners, other health professionals and the basic sciences. The membership now numbers in excess of 800. The purpose of the APS is to advance pain management through education, research and advocacy for transformational improvements in clinical care.
