About Darwin

Welcome to Darwin: Australia's tropical Harbour City. Darwin isn't just a stepping-stone to the Territory's world-class adventure playgrounds. It's an adventure in itself.

Visitors to the Northern Territory's capital are always beguiled by the city's natural surroundings, laid back multiculturalism, quirky sense of humour and cosmopolitan yet quintessentially Australian way of life. With the highest daily average sunshine hours of any Australian capital, you'll love Darwin's relaxed tropical, outdoor lifestyle.

People from over 40 countries make up Darwin's population. Its cultural heritage is a unique blend of ancient Aboriginal custom, the early pioneers, a distinctive WWII history and the influence of Asia just across the water.

Climate

The Territory's tropical north, experiences warm sunny weather for most of the year. In June the maximum temperature averages around 31.2° Celsius with a minimum temperature averaging around 20.8° Celsius.

In the dry season, from May to October, cool nights punctuate the reliably warm, sunny days.
